His Name Shall Be Jesus
JESUS was a remarkable man. From His conception to the time of His birth, many awesome and profound events occurred; events which confirmed that He was the Son of God. Not only did His presence affect the lives of His mother and father, Mary and Joseph, it also affected others who heard about His arrival. The story of His origin is still told, and it still has the power to affect those who hear it.
A miraculous occurrence happened to a young virgin by the name of Mary. She was greeted by an angel of the Most High God who shared a profound and life-changing message. She had found favor with God. But, what did this mean? It meant that her life was about to be dramatically impacted. She was to give birth to a son; not just any son – “the Son of the Most High”. She was to give this child the name JESUS.
Joseph, of the lineage of David, was espoused to a young woman by the name of Mary. Before they were joined, she was found to be pregnant. Her pregnancy was peculiar, for she was with child from the Holy Ghost. His betrothed was carrying IMMANUEL (Translation: God with us). He was to be called JESUS.
Joseph and Mary traveled from Nazareth to the city of David to register. While they were there in Bethlehem, Mary delivered her first-born son, the Savior Jesus Christ. She wrapped him in bandage-like strips of cloth and laid him in a feeding trough.
Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father, was made flesh and dwelled among men. He brought with Him both grace and truth. Those who received Him and believed on Him, He gave the right to become children of God and joint heirs with Him.
Challenge: Visit the place of your origin – the place where you first met Jesus Christ. Reflect on what led you to Him, how you were affected by Him, what you did as a result of meeting Him, how your life changed with Him, and where He has led you since you met Him. Follow closely in His footsteps and walk out the faith you profess.
