Transforming Church in Rural America by Shannon O’dell

A Phone Tree Book Review

Transforming Church in Rural America is a powerfully relevant book that seemingly tells the story of my early days and experiences in the body of Christ. O’Dell’s message – breaking all the rurals – is about confrontation, demolishing traditions, and moving toward a necessary change in mind and heart among God’s people. Though his book focuses on churches in rural America, it truly speaks to the community of believers in all places.

I thought this book was not only interesting, but also refreshingly honest. O’Dell dared to say the things that many people think but don’t necessarily say out loud. From his take on realities and possibilities to his lessons from Jerusalem, his book dealt with knocking down the walls of ignorance and legalism and building up a kingdom-minded people. I especially enjoyed the interactive resources and links that O’Dell provided. I also loved how he discussed the feelings and challenges that both he and his wife faced.

This book would be a great read for anyone interested in becoming an agent of change for the LORD.
