Water in the Desert

A desert is defined as any place that lacks in something. It is a place where few forms of life can exist. It is desolate, barren, and poorly suited to sustain life. The desert is a place that is largely uninhabitable. It is a place that is said to be infertile and forsaken. It is a wasteland. But isn’t it so like God to extend to us water in the deserts of our lives.

God has given womankind a means of Life for the deserts in our lives. He has given us a Branch of love for our deserts of fear. He has given us a Branch of peace for our deserts of distress. He has given us a Branch of hope for our deserts of despair. And, He has given us a Branch of light for our deserts of darkness.

Who is the living Branch and what does He represent? The living Branch is Jesus Christ and He is our living hope. In the seemingly dead places inside our hearts and the infertile places of our lives, Jesus Christ is the extension of God’s grace, power, and glory that can revive us all. He is the Living Water that provides nourishment, refreshing, and resurrection.

The Lord Jesus Christ is able to save all who are willing to come and surrender to Him. He can satisfy lives that are lacking. He can influence women to live abundantly. He can inhabit what was once seen as uninhabitable. He can make the infertile fertile. He can redeem that which was deemed forsaken. He can turn a wasteland into a land that is fruitful and life-sustaining.

Have you allowed the Lord Jesus Christ to show you His life-giving lessons in the desert? Have you allowed Him to take the dry, barren, places of your life and revive them?

Assignment: In your Spiritual Transformation Journal, write your thoughts and inner struggles as it relates to your “dry places.” Discuss the moments in your life that led you to your present desert dwelling. Write down all of the ways God has poured His Living Water over you. End your journal session with a prayer to the Father.
