The Pursuit of God…God of the Present Tense

A Phone Tree Bible Study Series

The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer

The Pursuit: God of the Present Tense (Week 4) – – > Chapters 6-7

During week four of our featured study, Tozer directs our attention to the God of the present tense. He shares his insights on the presence, the voice, and the being of God as it relates to man. He also invites us to delve further into the Word of God so that we may know and experience the ever-happening God for ourselves and so that we might build up our faith.

Quotes from Tozer:

– ”God is forever seeking to speak Himself out to His creation.”

– “The Word of God affects the hearts of all men as light in the soul.”

– ”It is important that we get still to wait on God…it is best that we get alone, preferably with our Bible…Then if we will we may draw near to God and begin to hear Him speak to us in our hearts.”

– “The Bible will never be a living Book to us until we are convinced that God is articulate in His universe.”

– “God speaking is in the continuous present.”

– “Faith is all-important in the life of the soul.”

– “…faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.”

– “…faith is not a once-done act, but a continuous gaze of the heart at the Triune God.”

4) While you are looking at God in the purest sense, are you guilty of casting a sideways look at yourself at the same time?

5) Has your gaze upon God been better focused as a result of this study to date? If so, how?

6) Is your heart’s attention directed toward Jesus?

7) Do you function in a state of unbelief even as you walk out your faith?

The Prayer: Blessing – – >

Heavenly Father, to know that You see us and are aware of us is so humbling. Touch our hearts in such a way that we are changed. Impact us so that all we want and desire is You. Blind us to the things that have distracted us in the past and focus our attention and gaze upon You in every way. Build up our faith. Show Yourself strong. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
