Week 7: Experiencing the Power of Jesus
Lesson Emphasis: The Power of a Timid Prayer (Day 2)
Reading Assignment: Luke 18:9-14
Meditate and Memorize: 2 Corinthians 12:9
Knowing and Feeling (Words from Max): “More meek than mighty. More timid than towering. More like a crippled lamb…than a proud lion…that’s how prayer begins. It begins as a yearning. An honest appeal…No pretense. No boasting. No posturing. Just prayer. Feeble prayer, but prayer nonetheless.”
The Heart…Matters (Lesson Summary): There is power in prayer! Power. In. Prayer. There is power that comes from on high to each one of us as we learn to honestly express and confess our soul’s desperation, with its woes and its concerns, as well as our heart’s confidences, with its joys and triumphs. But the power does not lie in the prayer itself, rather the power lies in the One who hears it and who lovingly chooses to respond.
Question: Have you come to the end of self where you can now recognize your need to pray (out of desperation or in confidence) to the LORD?
Challenge: This week, schedule an early morning prayer time where you can meet with the LORD. While all else is quiet in the house, go before the presence of God and be still. Speak to His heart from your personal place of desperation and/or confidence. Hear His Spirit’s response to your expressed truths.
