Week 8: Experiencing the Forgiveness of Jesus

Lesson Emphasis:What Will You Leave at the Cross? (Day 5)

Reading Assignment: Mark 2:1-12

Meditate and Memorize: Mark 2:10

Knowing and Feeling (Words from Max): “In order for the Cross of Christ to be the cross of your life, you and I need to bring something to the hill. We have seen what Jesus brought. With scarred hands He offered forgiveness. Through torn skin He promised acceptance. He took the path to take us home. He wore our garment to give us His own. We have seen the gifts He brought…what will we bring? We aren’t asked to paint the sign or carry the nails. We aren’t asked to wear the spit or bear the crown. But we are asked to walk the path and leave something at the Cross. ”

The Heart…Matters (Lesson Summary): The love of the Savior is unequaled in measure. His heart for God and for the people of God is without end. From it, an extension of infinite grace comes and pours itself into every life that expresses a need for Him. It touches every life that desperately longs for His forgiveness, His redemption, and His holy deliverance.

In Christ, we who are sinful have a way to be saved. We who are lost have an avenue to be found. We who are guilt-ridden, who are struggling in shame, and/or who are hopeless and wandering without a reason or a role have a means to partake of the promise. All this was/is done through Christ. He came that we might come – come to know Him, come to know His forgiveness, come to know the newness of life that is offered by Him.

Questions:

1) Do you believe that you can be forgiven?

2) How hard is it to forgive yourself even knowing that Christ has already forgiven you? Discuss.

3) What are you ready to come to the cross with and leave?

Challenge: This week, let’s try something a bit different. Get a sheet of paper. At the top of the paper, draw a picture of a cross. At the bottom, draw a picture of yourself. On random spots on the sheet, write down some of the sins, thoughts, doubts, insecurities, etc. that you deal with on a daily basis. Next, connect those sin spots by drawing a line. Study how one might pour into another; notice the connect or the pattern of influence, if any. Have the line that you have drawn end with an arrow at the foot of the cross. Ask yourself, can Christ/has Christ overcome all [these] things?
