The Sunday Bible Study Series -> featuring Experiencing the Heart of Jesus: Knowing His Heart, Feeling His Love by Max Lucado
Week 10: Experiencing the Hope of Jesus
Lesson Emphasis: Waiting Forwardly (Day 2)
Reading Assignment: Luke 2:25-35
Meditate and Memorize: Luke 2:30
Knowing and Feeling (Words from Max): “What does it do to you if you know you will someday see God? We know what it did to Simeon.
– He was “constantly expecting the Messiah”(v. 25 TLB).
– He was “living in expectation of the salvation of Israel” (v. 25 PHILLIPS).
– He “watched and waited for the restoration of Israel” (v. 25 NLB).
Simeon was waiting; not demanding, not hurrying, he was waiting…Simeon was waiting forwardly. Patiently vigilant. Calmly expectant. Eyes open. Arms extended. Searching…and hoping…”
The Heart…Matters (Lesson Summary): What can we learn from looking at the life and heart of Simeon? We can learn many things, many valuable things, such as what characteristics a follower of the LORD should have, how the Holy Spirit can influence one’s life course, and what practices a lover of God engages in. We can also learn just how essential it is that we each see, witness, comprehend, and/or experience the Salvation of the LORD. Additionally, we can see the importance of having a spirit of anticipation.
Question: How are you like or not like Simeon?
Challenge: Explore the depth of meaning associated with the Salvation of the LORD.
Going Further: Read 2 Peter 3:8-9.
