A 5-7-5 Haiku Message

This week’s study has been especially meaningful. Because it brings to the forefront the very idea of entering into the rest of the God, it presents an interesting teaching point. The very thought of resting in the LORD – all that it entails and all that it means – should cause us to appreciate the freedom of being in the care of the One who, indeed, loves us most and best. With that it mind, I offer these words to you. It is a simple, poetic declaration, inviting you to worship our Sovereign King.

Do Not Forget to Be Free

To find rest in Life,

Do not forget to be free.

Bow down to the King.

Challenge: Write your own 5-7-5 haiku.

Focus: Concentrate your writing on what it means to either enter into the rest of God or on what it means to be free in the LORD.

A 140-Word Literary Short

It had been three days, seventeen hours, and fifteen minutes since I heard the dreaded news.

I’m sorry; there’s nothing we can do.

A sense of devastation now replaced the anger that I had felt upon finding out my inevitable future.

So many things to say. So many things to do. Does any of it matter now?

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Things were meant to be different. I deserved more – more time, more love, more…life. After all, I’d changed for the better.

Did change really happen? Had I allowed it? Had I been open to it?

But…

God is faithful.

Is God faithful?

Yes, He is.

Is there even time now that the clock is ticking and the bells sweetly chime? Is there time to live, love, make peace, change?

I am with you always. Believe.

This 140-word literary short was penned after my having read a book entitled In the Mirror by Kaira Rouda. (I highly recommend it.) It’s meant to be a conversation with self. Read it all the way through and then go back and read the dark words only. Follow up by reading the light words only. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this piece. Good, bad, or indifferent is fine. I know my truth. What is yours?
